Rain, Snow, Hail, Trees, Pentathlons and Gordon glory

The last two weeks of February have rocked my world. :)
First, we had a little snow storm! Here are a couple of views from our window:
BEAUTIFUL!

Last week, the staff association of Gordon Conwell had departmental Secret Valentines. Our office was decorated quite wonderfully and we received treats galore. The accounting office received a rice krispie treat in the shape of a dollar sign (can you say creative?!) and were serenaded by the admissions office.

This week, we had what my friend Jamie called "Global Weirdness" - this was the craziest week of weather.

First, we had about three straight days of rain (odd for February). Then came approx. 70+ (we heard a range from 67 to 80) mph winds. This wind downed huge trees on campus (our campus safety people reported 33 trees down just on our little campus!). I mean- whole big trees UPROOTED. It looked like a war zone.

A big tree branch fell on a student's car smashing in her windshield. Our power went out for about 6 hours on Thursday night, but others in towns nearby did not fare so well - some people only regained power on Saturday afternoon. On Thursday, we came back from Gordon and had to do some minor off-roading in our car to avoid big tree branches on the road. :)

Most schools on the North Shore were cancelled on Friday due to lack of power (sadly, the seminary had power - alas, no day off for the Morans!).

On Friday morning, Matt was supposed to have a 6am baseball practice indoors at Gordon. But because of the lack of power, they had practice OUTSIDE in the cold! Such dedication! He came home and suggested a Dunkin' run, but to our dismay, the Dunkin' Donuts had no power. Plus, we couldn't take our normal route because of downed powerlines and trees that fell on the roads. I heard tales of all these people driving all over the place to find coffee- Dunkin' was closed, Starbucks was closed...a North Shore disaster!!!!

Friday afternoon we had torrential hail. Since then, we've had snow, sleet and more snow (but not actually creating any accumulation).

In other news, Saturday morning Matt and I participated in the Gordon College pentathlon! It was indoors and involved a 2 mile run, a 5 mile bike, an 80yard dash, a 100 yard swim and push ups (as many as you could do). The hilarious thing was that only 2 other guys showed up to compete (so there were 4 of us total!). And due to the lack of any other female competitors, I was able to score the prize for the female division. :) It was fun and quite amusing.

We've been following the Gordon Fighting Scots men's basketball team throughout this whole season. This week, they beat their two biggest rivals in the quarter and semi-finals. The man sitting next to Matt in the second photo goes to our church. He has adopted us and loved on us since we came to MA. And he is a big Gordon fan. :)

Last night was the culmination of the season with the championship game at Gordon vs. Curry. The crowd was HUGE. See Matt and Chris at the scoring table?!
Some of our church friends came. Several of them have been faithful fans with us this whole season. :)

Gordon won by 2 points! It was incredibly exciting. The atmosphere was charged up with a HUGE Gordon crowd and a big Curry crowd. Check out my facebook page for the videos!

Curry had a chance to win at the end, but we pulled through. So Gordon goes to the NCAA tournament starting this week! The Gordon crowd stormed the court. There was confetti. The players got t-shirts and cut down the nets. "We are the Champions" was playing over the loud speakers. AWESOME.

Today we had a fun time with our soul care group from church. We went to D and C's house for delicious authentic Korean food! We had mandoo, Korean pancakes (I forget the Korean name!) and other delicious items.
Sweet times with sweet friends!
Here's to a happy March!

Olympics Mania

I'm an Olympics junkie. I confess it...If I could just skip work and watch the Olympics all day, I would be the happiest girl in the world. I'm not patriotic, but I love watching the US athletes win. I'm totally impressed that Bob Costas never gets older and I'm blown away that Shaun White has his own half pipe on the side of a mountain. Love it- love it all (okay, everything but the ice dancing). Love the crashes, love the dramatic stories that talk about where people come from, love the 'Go World' commercials, love holding my breath and getting ultra tense when Bode Miller is skiing down the hill and it looks like he might just FLY OFF THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN!
So...if you don't hear from me for the next month, you'll know why. :) Go USA!

Important side note #1:
Happy 1st Birthday to Clara!

Happy Birthday to Brooke on Sunday!

Important side note #3:
My husband rocks my world. He loves Jesus and he loves me. Can't get much better than that! :)

too long have I neglected thee, oh blog...

Hi everyone!
Laurel signing in. :) Please give my hubby grace as blogging is not one of his priorities (and for this I am quite thankful!). :)

We are in 2010! With 2010 comes (Lord willing):
1) a chance to learn how to pray better, love people more fully, love Jesus more fully

2) the celebration of our 4 year anniversary (crazy! time flies!)

3) the start of baseball season - Go Fighting Scots!

4) our third New England winter (sadly, quite tame so far - never thought I'd be envious of the buckets of snow my parents are getting in Pennsylvania!)

5) Matt's 30th birthday and my Grandpa's 90th birthday (60 years apart - LOVE that!)

6)my attempt to learn how to play guitar (Noelle, want to give me some tips?! :))

7) the home stretch of seminary life

8)moving out of our apartment and into a new place (December?)

9) the start of Charlie's college career - Go Hartford Hawks!

10) a Syracuse basketball championship :)

11)trip to Chicago to see David, Carrie, Ashton, Emma, Clara and Rach -woo-hoo!

12)my mastery of the crockpot :)
